Now Entering Russ's World
Currently serving as its CEO, Eric Lefkofsky co-founded Tempus: a technology company that has since enabled personalized cancer care services in 2016. Tempus has been in the forefront when it comes to data-enabled precision medicine. Lefkofsky learnt of the gap that previously existed in the healthcare sector as far as matching patients’ health records and treatment was concerned. Tempus was therefore created close this gap.
The company decided to introduce digital technology in data collection thereby enabling cancer caregivers to make good use of patients’ health records during treatment. In its effort to transform cancer treatment, Tempus has created a digital platform that makes possible to analyze an individual’s clinical and molecular data.
After the firm developed the analytical software, the initial challenge was how to make it accessible and affordable. The other challenge was how progress notes would be collected, captured, and analyzed. Tempus responded to these hurdles by developing advanced software with natural language processing as well as visual character identification capabilities. These advancements have significantly reduced the cost of cancer care. Human genome sequencing that reportedly cost $100 million in 2003 can now be done at $5,000. Tempus has maintained its focus on presenting quality and affordable cancer care and continues to work tirelessly towards making human genome sequencing cheaper.
Many researchers have appreciated the work that is being done by Eric Lefkofsky and his company. Healthcare professionals hope that by combining, comparing, and analyzing a patient’s clinical and molecular information, they will discover better ways to combat cancer and related diseases. Lefkofsky also believes that technological innovations like that of Tempus will help doctors in making real-time decisions in pairing individuals with effective treatments.
