But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (HCSB)

Ideas for Service

The ideas for serving others is only as limited as your imagination. These are just ideas that we came up with while brainstorming. The best thing you can do is pray that God will open up your heart for what He has created you to do. Everyone can do something.

It does not have to be hard or complicated. Just use what God has already given you and share it with others. If everyone just helped one other person, truly made a difference in just one persons life, the world would never be the same.

The Obvious:

  • Help out in a homeless shelter, soup kitchen, children’s home or orphanage, nursing home, crisis pregnancy center, etc. The things these places need are many and varied. Maybe they need you to do something specific or maybe you have an idea for helping. Just call and ask what they need.

The little more creative:

  • Using your skills to help the less fortunate or unsaved.

Examples are but not limited to:

  • Carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, any serviceman, can donate time and resources to the places listed above or not so obvious places such as:
  • Fixing up the neighborhood basketball courts and playing basketball with the youth and talk to them about Jesus.
  • Fixing up a local park that has been run down.
  • Fixing up a vacant lot or eyesore in the community. Turn it into something for the community: community garden or just a nice place to hang out. Again, use your imagination.
  • Helping the elderly with projects around their house that they cannot do themselves or afford someone to do it for them. The same goes for single parents.
  • Doctors and lawyers could offer their professional services once a week or month to the ones that cannot afford it for free.

The very creative:

  • Single parents could use a help in a variety of ways. Maybe they need money or free child care. Several stay at home moms could get together and watch the children a few days a week for free. Men that raise daughters alone might need a woman to take her shopping or bake with her or teach her how to sew, etc. Moms that raise sons with no father need a Godly man in the boys life to teach him how to be a man, Take him fishing, hunting, to a sporting event. Again, use your imagination. If you are doing these things anyway, take along someone who never gets the chance to do these things.
  • If you can bake, play a musical instrument, fish, knit, whatever, do it for God. Find one other person that you can teach your talent to for free that cannot afford it. Ask God to send someone that you can help in your area of expertise.
  • Teach someone how to read.
  • Leave food on someone’s doorstep that you know is struggling financially with note saying that this is from God.
  • Buy Christmas presents for a family that cannot afford them.
  • Help people with handicaps.
  • Teenagers can gather their clothes they do not wear anymore and set up a place in a poor section of town and give their clothes to the less fortunate.
  • Do random acts of kindness.
  • Veteran mothers or home school moms or Christians can mentor newbies. Anytime you are new at something it always helps to have someone to talk to that has been there before. As you can see, the possibilities are endless. I am sure you can come up with your own list of ways you and your family can help someone else. Definitely make it a family event if you have one.

May our God in heaven bless you richly as you go about doing good!
