Now Entering Russ's World
David McDonald, President of OSI Group, is happy that his company is working to expand its operations more than it ever has. In recent news, OSI is making moves to grow its Spain operations and has done so by doubling its capacity to process chicken products. The way the company accomplished this was by adding new improvements to its existing Toledo, Spain facility that included updates to security, new storage areas, and increased production capacity. The cost of the expansion came in at €17 million and allows OSI to pump out 24,000 tons of chicken products annually compared to the 12,000 tons it was capable of producing before the expansion.
David McDonald was glad to hear that the project added 22,600 square-feet to the facility and that a new production hall, shipping and receiving area, service areas, social area for employees, and waste container storage were added to the plant. On top of this, 20 new jobs were made available to locals in the area and a fresh test kitchen was added to help improve the development of new products that OSI will offer. A total amount of 160 people will now be working at the Toledo, Spain OSI facility, and this will help to boost the local economy. David McDonald has been spearheading new improvements being made by OSI Group to make its operations more sustainable. Security was beefed-up at the facility and will help to protect its employees and the products it sales. An indoor camera and fire suppression system was added, and the energy efficiency of the plant was improved by reducing its electricity consumption by close to 20%. Modern day, cutting edge equipment is constantly being added to OSI’s operations all over the globe, and David McDonald is proud to be a part of this effort, because the equipment helps to improve the bottom line of the company as well as its sustainability measures.
David McDonald has been with OSI Group for over three decades after deciding to join its mission in 1987. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Animal Science and has served as the Chairman of the North American Meat Institute in the past. Under his guidance, OSI has received many different awards, and one of these was the International Safety Award that was given to OSI by the British Safety Council. The company has received 10 other awards from the council recognizing its commitment to sustainability, the environment, and the health and safety of its workers as well as the locality that it operates in.
