Now Entering Russ's World
Omar Yunes, franchisee of the popular Sushi Itto restaurant, has been named Best Franchisee in the World at a contest that took place in Florence, Italy. Mr. Yunes currently owns 13 units located in Mexico City, Puebla and Veracruz. This accounts for 10% of the brands total unit count.
The 2015 edition of the Best Franchisee in the World contest was attended by representatives from 34 countries throughout Central America, South America and Europe.
The Best Franchisee in the World (BFW) is contingent upon how well the franchisee has influenced the network of the overall company, the contribution it has made in terms of knowledge, a savings implementation, employee motivation and overall improvements that have been made to the business model.
This marks a turning point in the Mexican Franchise sector where once only a regional market existed now an international place has been made.
Mr. Yunes has been a franchisee owner since he was 21 years old and has entered the competition under the title of “Professionalization of the Franchisee“. He manages a team of 400 in those franchised units across Central and South America. He is proud of the responsibility he has to have 1,600 people depend on him (400 employees under his management times the 4 members of their family). He is proud to represent Mexico in such an achievement and feels the responsibility comes with difficult decision.
Mr. Yunes claims that the first step in having a successful franchise is to first by the rights to become a franchisee of a franchise. It is not necessary to be an expert restauranteur but to be an intelligent franchise manager. The technical market knowledge is important in this aspect and will lead to success in the business one is franchising. Understanding how to manage is key to success in franchise operations.
Mr. Yunes predicts a strong market in Central America in the next 25 years for his brands and sees an expansion into Europe during that time.
