Now Entering Russ's World
One philanthropist that’s effecting positive change within his community is Highland Capital Management or HCM president, James ‘Jim’ Dondero. The serial investor and business magnate support several local charitable movements and events. He’s significantly reshaped the Dallas-Fort Worth infrastructure as a first-class donor of numerous community outreach programs. With HCM and Dondero’s million dollar donation, Dallas Zoo completed a major community project. This represented a fraction of the organization’s multimillion dollar budget to construct an educational animal exhibit as an extension of the zoo’s community development exercise. He’s been an enterprising agent in organizing the spectacle of reintroducing Hippos to Dallas Zoo.
Another nonprofit that’s creating noise among emerging community innovators is Uplift Education. Jim remains committed supporter of the movement on its education enrichment agenda. It represents a network of charter schools that equip Dallas students with quality college preparatory skills through a sponsorship education program. With this preparation, they’ll be better equipped to handle socio-economic challenges in today’s rapidly evolving society.
As an affiliate of the cornerstone policy organization, George W. Bush Presidential Library and Institute, Mr. Dondero strives to bring young community leaders to the forefront. Jim also collaborated with organizations like The Family Place, Education is Freedom, Snowball Express, Capital for Kids, Perot Museum of Natural Science and more. The HCM executive also pledged $2 million to launch the prominent Tower Scholars Program with SMU (Southern Methodist University) back in 2014.
HCM has become a pioneering investment advisory under Dondero’s leadership. As a co-founding father, he’s been an integral asset to the firm’s success and industry exposure. With expertise and hands-on industry knowledge of credit/equity markets, he’s originated award-winning products for HCM. With these achievements, Mr. Dondero takes credit for the company’s designation as a 5-star Morningstar rated Funds manager for Global Allocation in 2014.
In addition, it’s a top Morningstar vendor of healthcare products. It also scooped a Lipper Award. He earned two degrees after studying Accounting/Finance at UVa’s (University of Virginia) prestigious McIntire School of Commerce. As a top academic achiever, he made Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi honors societies. He’s also a licensed CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and CMA (Certified Management Accountant).
