How George Soros Embraces Philanthropy and Civil Activism

There is a progressive, liberal billionaire who is looking at a huge return into the political game in 2017. His name is George Soros and he is one of the foremost investors, philanthropists, and progressive individuals in the entire world. George Soros is probably most well known for the work he did alongside Al Gore during Gore’s election campaign against President Bush. While Soros and Gore fell short in their ultimate goal, Soros was still able to establish himself as one of the few prominent billionaire progressives in the United States. The election campaign of Donald Trump managed to stir the hornets nest and bring Soros back into politics after a multi-year hiatus.

George Soros is a Hungarian born New Yorker who came over to the United States in 1956. Soros saw firsthand what it meant for an oppressive regime to take over. When he was a teenager, Soros lived in Hungary during the Nazi occupation. Soros and his family fought back in their own way, helping countless Jewish born Hungarians escape. Still, almost half of a million Hungarian Jews were killed from 1944 to 1945. Soros would emigrate to London before moving to America, taking with him the lessons he learned along the way. When Donald Trump began his campaign for President many people didn’t take him seriously. Still, Trump managed to win by honing in on the worst aspects of people — running a violent, hateful, and racially charged campaign. George Soros, who has spent the majority of his life fighting against those very things, was forced to step back into the political arena. George Soros reemerged during the 2016 presidential election in order to donate nearly $25 million to the campaign of Democratic nominee Hilary Clinton and a host of other progressives up and down the ticket.

Ultimately George Soros’ goal is to serve as a foil to the destructive policies that Donald Trump is going to try and enact as President, but he can’t do it alone. Soros believes in government accountability as well as civil engagement from every person involved. That is why George Soros established the Open Society Foundations philanthropic endeavor. The Open Society Foundations works with grassroots activists and campaigns all over the world. In their existence, the OSF has given over $12 billion to activists to help fund them. Many people in America are aware first hand as to the power of the Open Society Foundations. The Ferguson protests were funded, in part, by the millions that Soros and his foundation put into activist campaigns in the area. As a result, activists were able to take to the street and march for equality and justice during a tragic time in the city’s history.
