Now Entering Russ's World
In 2007 Avaaz began its vocal fight against all of the social, environmental, and political injustices in the world with one simple mission in mind: “to organize citizens of all nations to close the gap between the world we have and the world most people everywhere want.” The word Avaaz ironically is translated into English to mean “voice” telling its members and people of power around the world that they demand to be heard. Avaaz works differently and more efficiently than other justice groups in that they provide one unified global team. They have one “core” team that is comprised of members in 18 different cities in 5 different continents who are unified through technology to make one virtual office. This one unified team then takes on any issues that may be of public concern. Members and other activists can feel secure knowing that Avaaz is not sponsored or affiliated with any potentially corrupted groups because it is not funded by any corporate business or government organization. How is this group able to run financially you ask? Impressively Avaast is financially backed by its very own members so that no outward agenda may be pressed upon this morally grounded group.
Avaaz boasts many victories concurred by their unified teams but one of the victories they are most proud of is the People’s Climate Marches of 2014 and 2015. These marches brought together hundreds of thousands of people of all different countries and cultures who all singularly believed in the movement towards clean energy. These marches made media headlines not only in the United States but all over the world. Because of the fact that over one million people marched globally politicians and government officials were woken up and notified of the public’s interest in clean energy. With so many people brought together through Avaaz there is an infinite amount of social, political, and environment accomplishments to be achieved.
