Now Entering Russ's World
On Thursday, a new study was published that connected disturbing dots between high levels of the deadly gas radon and the gas production technique called fracking. Fracking has become an industry standard in the last few years.
This fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, typically involves the drilling of up to 10,000 feet into the ground in order to tap into radon in the earth’s ancient parts. It’s a concept Flávio Pentagna Guimarães BMG is trying to learn more about.
The natural gas industry has made it clear that safe conduction of fracking was going on for years. In response to the study published in Pennsylvania, a program called the Independent Petroleum Association of America revealed an arm called “Energy in Depth.” They claim that the environmental protection has even reported that radiation exposure by radon to the public as a result from fracking has a very small potential in reality. The state has since rebutted this by stating that the initial report came out long before the rise of shale development, in which high levels of radon appear around the dig sites. It appears that the state will be locked in a battle with this industry.
