Now Entering Russ's World
Scott was first diagnosed with cancer in 2007 after an emergency appendectomy. The cancer was resilient, and after numerous rounds of chemotherapy, the disease reemerged in 2011, 2012 and again in 2014. Throughout his entire battle with the illness, Scott stayed positive, motivated, and determined to keep fighting for his life.
While accepting his award at the ESPY’s, Scott left us with this gracious quote, “When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.” It is fair to say that in the end, Scott won. His legacy will remain ingrained in the minds and hearts of sports lovers across the globe.
